Plant to Plate 

The goal of our “Plant to Plate” enrichment program is to provide our children with an opportunity to explore the benefits of horticulture, including growing plants and vegetables which can be a used as a source of food for both humans and other living things.

During the course of the program, students will:

  • Visit Fifer Orchards to interview an expert in the horticulture industry in order to build their background knowledge and collect information

  • Deepen their understanding through structured exploratory lessons where they will read about the topic, view online media sources, and integrate content area knowledge (math, science etc.) to complete authentic tasks

  • Develop a plan for planting various vegetation in the school courtyard—the vegetation will remain in the courtyard and be maintained throughout the school year by the students and staff

  • Learn about the “Plant to Plate” mindset for healthy eating and living by cooking healthy meals using some of the vegetation they have grown
